Ben Gallaher Releases “Still a Few Cowboys Left”

Ben Gallaher just released his newest single “Still a Few Cowboys Left” and it represents a lot of what needs to be said today. I chatted with him about the song and the meaning behind it.

Gallaher penned the tune with Neil Thrasher and Tony Martin, both of whom have several well-known hits under their belts. The idea for the song came about when Thrasher and Martin were considering the concept and discussed it with Gallaher. “As soon as they did, I was all in,” he shared.

When thinking about the premise of the song, one can draw a few different meanings. Gallaher explained, “In a literal sense, I’m not a cowboy, but figuratively speaking, I have a lot of cowboy in me.”

I’ve heard from various people that a “cowboy state of mind” is about the person inside: respectful, family-oriented, values-driven, and has a lot of integrity. Gallaher added the analogy, “If you get knocked off, you get back on again.” It’s not about the way you look or where you live, it’s who you are.

Additionally, he explained that it’s a nod to women, that there are still men left that prioritize faith, family, and hard work. In a crazy world where it seems that many people lack morals and values, it’s good to know that there are still a few cowboys left.

Shot and directed by Bobby Wolff, Gallaher shares the spotlight with Boots O’Neal as the visual chronicles a day in the life of the legendary cowboy. The video, which premiered yesterday (9/21) with CMT.com and CMT Music, also highlights the next generation of younger cowboys – both played by ranchers’ sons – all set on a scenic Texas ranch.

B-Side Track: “Quote the Bible”

Alongside the “Still a Few Cowboys Left,” fans can listen to Gallaher’s b-side track titled “Quote the Bible,” which he wrote about his dad. “The song is word for word, 100%, right on the money, true about my dad. That’s the special part about it.”

The decision to release the song came after Gallaher played it at shows and fans requested the recording. “My old man can quote the Bible without saying a word.”
