In 1987, Mary Chapin Carpenter signed as a recording artist with Columbia Records, releasing her first album, Hometown Girl that same year. Off of that album, Carpenter had two Top Ten singles on country radio, “Never Had It So Good” and “Quittin’ Time“. Since then, Carpenter has released a total of 14 studio albums, four compilation albums and three video albums. Additionally, she has snagged 5 Grammy Awards and 2 CMA and ACM awards. The highly accomplished artist is set to release her 15th studio album, The Dirt And The Stars August 7.
Recently, Mary Chapin Carpenter found herself back in the spotlight, being featured on “PBS NewsHour” preforming new music and discussing “Songs From Home“, her virtual concert series.
Produced by Ethan Johns and recorded live at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios in Bath, England, Carpenter’s new album explores life’s intimate, personal stages while contemplating its challenging questions at an unusual time. This is the first array of music the artist has released since 2016’s The Things That We Are Made Of.
The title track of the new album, “Between The Dirt And The Stars,” premired last week.
Over the years, Carpenter has found immense success, selling over 14 million records and becoming a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. There is no doubt her prosperity will continue with the release of The Dirt And The Stars later this summer.
