Guided by the former manager of Taylor Swift, 15-year-old Jordana Bryant is using her east coast charm to bring her own style of country music to Nashville.
At just the young age of 10, Bryant was writing music, singing and playing guitar in her home in Pennsylvania. Songwriting took a special place in her heart and became a passion as she went through her teenage years. “I just fell in love with how you could control what message you put out and it was such a great way to spread positivity,” Bryant explained.
Influencing her music career, her father, who was in a country-rock band when he was a teenager, would strum the guitar while Bryant would come up with lyrics to fit the tune. “He would play some chords and I would start to come up with melodies and that really helped me with music. We would record them on voice memos and that is how I started writing,” she said.
Pursuing her Dream
Knowing that she wanted to pursue music as her career, Bryant began to take singing seriously and took to social media to get her name out to the public. Posting covers of songs and original music on her social media platforms, the young musician got noticed by Grammy-award-winning producer Seth Mosley of Full Circle Music. Mosley, interested in her style of country music, invited her to visit Nashville and record a few tunes last Spring. Bryant landed a development and publishing deal and was invited to work with Rick Barker, former manager of Taylor Swift. Jordana co-wrote “This Love” alongside Mosley and with Jesse Lee.
“Once I started writing and recording, i just knew that is what I wanted to do and I couldn’t do anything else because I just love it so much. With the writing of country music, I loved how it was such vivid stories that you could picture so when I started writing I knew I wanted to write with country music and write those kinds of stories,” she said.
Improvising During Quarantine
As her music career was just taking off, the pandemic hit. Looking to keep her fans entertained during quarantine, Bryant took to her social media to foster connections with her fans.
Bryant continued, “When quarantine started, I was going live on instagram every night and I found it was a really great way to connect with fans even though we couldn’t be in person. I have been trying to go live every week at 7 p.m. ET and I found that is a really great way to connect with my fans even when we can’t be in person together.”
Today she continues to bond with her 23k Instagram followers by sharing snippets of developing songs and lyrics she has created. Her latest single, “This Love” she shared on her Instagram which inspired her to evolve the tune into the popular melody that was released recently in early October.
“This Love”
“I wrote the first 30 seconds of (“This Love”) before going live on Instagram and I decided to play it that night and it got such an awesome reaction that I knew I had to finish it and put it out as my first single,” she said.
The country-pop song is a story about the progression of a young girl who falls in love. Bryant captures the innocence and liberation of the youthful relationship in the catchy tune.
“We all kind of daydream about young love and so I really wanted to capture that excitement and joy with this song,” she said.
With the goal of creating a single that was relatable to her fanbase, Bryant said she believes the song is, “authentic to them and authentic to me.”
Making the Video
As the song grabbed attention from her supporters, she thought it would be a great idea to make a video to capture the fun essence of the song.
“When I was writing it I was picturing these scenes and I really wanted to make the song come to life with a music video,” she explained.
Shot in Nashville, Bryant describes the creation of the music video as “different” as everyone was in masks and socially distanced for the production.
Looking ahead, Bryant plans to release an EP by early spring and later form an album with the EP’s five singles. The EP will follow the storyline that “This Love” launches and will most likely have a few music videos to help bring the tale of young love to life.
Her latest single “This Love” has an accompanying studio video and an acoustic version which can be found on Bryant’s website.
