Ryan Garrett Releases first Holiday Single “Music City Christmas”

Ryan Garrett’s Christmas single might not getting you rockin’ around the tree, but it will make you sway to the slow strum of his guitar.

Garrett, a native of Boerne, Texas started writing songs when he was eleven years old, joining various pop and rock bands as he aged through his youth. Realizing his lifestyle wasn’t reflecting his true self, Garrett took a leap of faith.

“It just wasn’t me, so I decided to say I am going to wing it and drive to Nashville one day. I drove up there with my buddy and we wrote a bunch of songs with a couple friends of ours and they just came out country,” said Garrett.

Six years later, Garrett lives in Nashville and now creates music in the country genre, including his latest release titled “Music City Christmas,”. On Halloween, his best friend Joey Green and he were driving in Nashville when Green randomly found inspiration to write a holiday song.

“I was like okay, i’m down,” Garrett commented.

Green came up with the chorus in which they sing, “Just another lonely Music City Christmas” and Garrett loved it. Fast forward to Thanksgiving when the duo were sitting in the basement of Green’s house when they agreed to finish writing the single.

“We just decided to write it and it came out really, really good and heartfelt. I sent it to my managers and they were like ‘yeah, you need to record that ASAP. We need to get it out before Christmas,'” Garrett laughed.

Without any real plans of releasing the single, needless to say the duo was happily surprised with the positive feedback from Garrett’s leadership.

“We just decided to say screw it and put it out,” he said.

Garrett’s relationship with Green began three years ago at Whiskey Jam. A fan himself of Green’s style, Garrett introduced himself after the show and the pair almost instantly became best friends.

Writing songs and creating music together, Garrett chuckled, “I pretty much hang out with him every day.”

Music City Christmas” was released on Dec. 11 and is already getting worthy attention. The single even made its way onto Spotify’s New Music Holiday playlist.

Garrett continued, “I am really proud of the song. I think we did a really great job with writing it but I think what is cool about it is everyone is saying it is so relatable, especially right now. There are a lot of people out there that won’t get to spend time with their loved ones because they’ve passed on, because they’re in quarantine or because they’re not going out. It is just relatable in a lot of different aspects.”
