David Adam Byrnes to Release Keep Up With A Cowgirl

David Adam Brynes is proof that artists and songwriters don’t need to adhere to a particular formula to be successful. The country singer recently achieved his seventh straight #1 with “One Honky Tonk Town” on the Texas Regional Radio Chart and is the only artist to reach the number one spot on every single. He’s set to release his new album Keep Up With A Cowgirl tomorrow, which contains a handful of his #1 songs, unreleased tracks, and a few acoustic tunes as well.

Neon Town, Byrnes’s 2020 album, was a way to navigate back from the mainstream country music scene and return to the style he truly loves. Having solidified the direction of his music, Byrnes took his vision for Keep Up With a Cowgirl a step further by co-producing the album with Bart Busch. ”I know what I want to sound like, I know what I want my songs to sound like. Bart knows know to not let me settle and do some of the stuff that you need a studio pro on,” he explained.

“I like to make records that I would want to sit down and listen to and this is a record that I’d want to sit down and listen to.”

“Keep Up With A Cowgirl”

The title track is an exceptional nod to the badass cowgirls out there. It’s incredibly refreshing to hear a song about women that doesn’t involve just physical beauty, but strength, determination, and a heart of gold.

“If you can keep up with a cowgirl, she’s gonna take you for a hell of a ride.”

– Lyric from “Keep Up With a Cowgirl”

Written alongside Jay Brunswick and Jason Blaine, the song actually started out as “Keep Up With A Cowboy,” but Byrnes decided to pivot after considering how many cowboy songs exist. The decision proved to be prudent. As a “Yellowstone” fan, Byrnes wrote the song with Beth Dutton in mind. He shared, “From that moment on, the song kinda formed and wrote itself.”

Keep Up With A Cowgirl Video

For the video, Byrnes partnered with Durango Boots, who also supports women in Western sports. Erin DeLong from their marketing team stated, “It’s been a pleasure working with David Adam Byrnes as one of Durango Boot’s country music ambassadors, especially on his new music video ‘Keep Up With A Cowgirl.’ Spotlighting the strong, independent women in the western industry has been a focal point for the Durango brand and David’s music video does just that.”

The video features several Team Durango professional female athletes including Stevi Hillman (barrel racer), Jordon Briggs (barrel racer), Lisa Lockhart (barrel racer), and Kelsie Domer (breakaway roper). Its overall concept is derived from the style of Garth Brooks’s video for “The Dance,” where he sings solo and then various clips are shown throughout.

“I’m pretty stoked,” he began. “I just watched it and it is awesome!”

Additional Song Highlights

As usual, I enjoyed the entire album from Byrnes and wanted to highlight a couple additional new songs. “A Shot or Two” contains a clever double entendre that you’ll want to add to your vernacular. “All I’m Missing” is about a guy who has everything except the girl he loves, which many people will resonate with.

Byrnes shared that his favorite song on the album is “I Find a Reason,” because of the imagery, that it’s a waltz, and the reality of the lyrics. Aside from relationships, everyone can relate to having something they were trying to move away from and then it all comes flooding back.
