Curating a Timeless Collection
Loveless created Sleepless Nights in close partnership with her husband and longtime producer Emory Gordy Jr. The two carefully selected 16 vintage country songs from an original list of more than 500 contenders, each telling stories of love and loss.
The album’s rich sound was brought to life by an accomplished group of Nashville session musicians, including Harold Bradley, John Hobbs, Hargus “Pig” Robbins, Harry Stinson, Steve Gibson, Biff Watson, and Vince Gill, who provided background vocals on the title track. The warmth of these performances shines even more vividly in the vinyl format.
A Blend of Generations
“This project is a hybrid,” Loveless shares. “Some of the participants weren’t even born when these songs were written and recorded. Others actually played on the original recordings, such as Harold Bradley (guitar) and Billy Linneman (bass) along with Hargas ‘Pig’ Robins (piano). Pig also played on my first demo session, a gift for my 16th birthday from Doyle Wilburn (Wilburn Brothers). It’s a mixture of the wisdom of the experienced, with the innocent enthusiasm of the new. It’s said that a hybrid will withstand the test of time. This then is a timeless blend of my heart and yours. I’m so glad to see it released on vinyl.”
A Career of Accolades
Over the course of her career, Loveless has earned five Country Music Association awards, three Academy of Country Music awards, two GRAMMY® Awards, and an American Music Award. She became a Grand Ole Opry member on June 11, 1988, and is an inductee in the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame, and the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. With 21 albums to her name, including four platinum and three gold records, she has topped the country singles chart nine times.
