Country Evolution is excited to premiere Alex Miller’s latest song, “Memories and Gin,” a standout new release that once again highlights the Kentucky native’s gift for authentic country storytelling. The song is included on his upcoming album More Country Than You, out this Friday, April 10.
In our latest interview with Miller, the rising country star opened up about the song’s inspiration, his creative process, and how he continues to stay true to himself while expanding his sound.
Best known for his traditional country roots and unmistakable stage presence, Miller has become a natural fan favorite since first capturing national attention during Season 19 of American Idol in 2021. From rural Lancaster, Kentucky to the Grand Ole Opry stage, his journey has been shaped by hard work, heart, and a deep love for country music.
The Story Behind “Memories and Gin”
When discussing the inspiration behind “Memories and Gin,” Miller explained that the song came together in a spontaneous and personal moment while he was traveling on the bus. He explained, “I had the idea for the song while riding down the road on my bus one day. The melody just hit me like an avalanche. I wrote the first verse and chorus in 30 minutes. A few days later took it to my good buddy Bill Whyte and we finished it. I do like the way it leans in more to my Honky Tonk side, which is something I want to pursue further.”
The story behind the track feels fitting for Miller, whose music often carries the spirit of classic country while still feeling fresh and immediate.

Staying Authentic While Growing His Sound
During our interview, Miller also spoke about balancing traditional country influences with the evolving sound of today’s genre. He said he’s inspired by artists like Zach Top who are helping to bring traditional country music back to the mainstream. “He’s just being who he is. And I feel like that’s what I do too. That’s my lane. It’s being who I am and being authentic. Country.”
That commitment to authenticity has become one of Miller’s trademarks and is a major reason fans continue to connect with his music.
Music That Comes From Real Life
One of the most moving moments in our interview came when Miller discussed recording “Just a Mom,” a song that carries deep personal meaning. “Well, my mom and my dad divorced when I was seven or eight years old, and that was really a tough thing for not only me, but for both my parents. My mom was a single mom for a very long time. I hadn’t recorded one for my mom yet, and I wanted a song that was special.” Although he didn’t write this one, the meaning behind it really resonated with him.
That emotional honesty has been a defining part of Miller’s artistry, allowing listeners to feel the real-life experiences behind every lyric.
A Career Still on the Rise
Miller’s momentum has only continued to grow over the past several years. Following his well-received releases MILLER TIME, COUNTRY, and the MY DADDY’S DAD EP, he made his debut at the Grand Ole Opry in 2024 and has continued building an impressive touring and recording career.
Whether opening for major country acts, releasing charting singles, or representing Kentucky Proud as a brand ambassador, Miller continues to carve out his own lane in country music. He’s even performing overseas for the first time at a festival in Norway this July.
During the interview, he told us what the music and the fans mean to him. “Well, I’ll be honest with you, it’s everything to me.”
