Ashley Ryan is serving up her signature twang and sass with her latest release, “Wrong Post”—out today across all digital and streaming platforms. The fiery track, co-written by Ryan alongside Frank Stopak, Quinn Loggins, and Larry McCoy (who also produced the song), delivers a cautionary message to an ex about his new flame, wishing him the luck he’ll undoubtedly need. Blending classic country influences with a modern twist, “Wrong Post” showcases Ryan’s powerhouse vocals, sharp-witted lyrics, and an undeniably infectious melody.

When asked about the new release, Ryan’s excitement was palpable: “I’m so excited about this!” But beyond just releasing another song, “Wrong Post” represents something even bigger for her—it’s a defining moment in her artistic journey.

Finding Her Sound in Nashville

For many artists, moving to Nashville is a wake-up call. Ryan admitted that, like many newcomers, she initially thought she had her sound figured out. She explained that people often come in believing they’re country singers, but she questioned what that really entails, acknowledging the vast nuances within the genre.

“I feel like I finally honed in on what my sound is,” she shared. She noted how easy it is to fall into the trap of trying to be the next Miranda Lambert or Carrie Underwood. “So many people do it,” she said. But for her, it was crucial to incorporate her influences without simply mimicking them. “This is truly my sound.”

The Story Behind “Wrong Post”

Ryan describes “Wrong Post” as a very country, sass-filled track, pulling inspiration from legends like Dolly Parton, Dierks Bentley, and, of course, the ever-present Miranda Lambert sass. The song tells the tale of a woman who watches her ex move on—only to find out his new relationship is doomed to repeat history. “It’s like a karma song,” she laughed.

While “Wrong Post” is rooted in personal experience, Ryan emphasized the importance of songwriting boundaries. “Even though someone might break my heart, I still don’t want to make them uncomfortable by just throwing them under the bus,” she explained. “I’m not trying to embarrass anyone, but at the same time, don’t break a songwriter’s heart,” she joked.

She acknowledges that some of the most personal lyrics can be the hardest to share. “In those really, really personal songs, it can be hard to be vulnerable,” she said. But the payoff is worth it, as she often hears from fans who deeply relate to her music.

“Adeline” and a Nod to Dolly

Before “Wrong Post,” Ryan released “Adeline,” a song she didn’t write herself but felt an instant connection to. Written by Quinn Loggins and Larry McCoy, Adeline carries a feisty, no-nonsense attitude. “It’s got so much attitude. It’s got super sassy moments,” Ryan said, describing it as a warning to a homewrecker: “If you come for my man, I’m going to come for you.”

She immediately saw parallels between “Adeline” and Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” calling her song “Jolene’s granddaughter.” But while Jolene tells the story of a woman begging another not to take her man, Adeline flips the script. The other woman doesn’t stand a chance because she’s not a Jolene.

When asked what she thought Dolly would say about Adeline, Ryan lit up. “Man, that would be so crazy. I would love to get her opinion on it.”
