Brit Taylor just released her highly-anticipated sophomore album, Kentucky Blue. This album is the result of a collaboration between Taylor and two of the biggest names in music production, Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson. With ten original tracks, Kentucky Blue showcases Taylor’s exceptional songwriting skills and transports listeners to a world of captivating melodies.
The album, which was released under Cut a Shine records in partnership with Thirty Tigers, is now available on all major music streaming platforms. Before its official release, Taylor teased fans with four of the album’s songs – “Cabin In The Woods,” “Kentucky Blue,” “Rich Little Girls” and “Ain’t A Hard Livin’.” All of these tracks were co-written by Taylor, who has a deep connection to her Appalachian roots and is dedicated to preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage.

We sat down with Taylor to get exclusive insights on her album.
What was it like working with Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson on this album?
It was really a dream come true and a collaborative effort between them, the band and me just to try to come up with something we all loved and would be proud of. It all happened very naturally and organically. We were trying to make great music, but we were also just trying to have a good time.
Your bio stated that you’ve been through a lot in the past few years. How does it feel to turn things around and be on the other side of that today?
It feels great. I feel stronger and more confident than ever. I believe the hard times that challenge us actually change us for the better… if we let them. I really looked inward and started working on myself and how to be the best version of me I could be. Everything I am and have now far outweigh the hard times I had to go through to get here. I’d do it a million times over. I guess it’s really all about perspective at the end of the day.
Do you have any favorite memories or anecdotes you can share about the making of the album?
We were listening to play back of “Ain’t A Hard Livin’” when Sturgill and Miles (Miller, played drums on my record and plays drums for Sturgill) took to dancing like only a true hillbilly can dance. I WISH I had gotten it on video but I’ll remember that forever. I knew right then that we were doing something right!
Your album release tour kicked off on February 4 in Nashville. What are you most looking forward to?
I feel like I have been holding my breath since the moment we finished the record! I think the album release show is going to be one giant exhale! I look forward to people finally getting to hear the new music. I love connecting with people through song, so I can’t wait to see what songs hit people and hear how they fit their own personal stories into the songs.
