Country Cares
Country Music artists meet St. Jude patients while supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during the 35th annual Country Cares seminar on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

The country music community has reached a monumental milestone with the 35th anniversary of Country Cares for St. Jude Kids®, announcing that over $1 billion has been raised since the program’s inception in 1989. This achievement was celebrated at the annual gathering with performances by Brad Paisley, Old Dominion, Jon Pardi, and Megan Moroney, highlighting the country music industry’s dedication to supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.

The Impact of Country Cares for St. Jude Kids®

Country Cares has become one of the most significant charitable initiatives in music, relying on various fundraising methods to support St. Jude’s mission:

  • Radiothons have played a key role, engaging thousands of monthly donors who help sustain the hospital’s operations.
  • The This Shirt Saves Lives campaign, along with special events and concerts, have also been critical in rallying support.

Funds raised go directly to sustaining and expanding St. Jude’s world-renowned research and treatment programs. It costs nearly $2 billion annually to maintain and grow the hospital’s capabilities, making continued fundraising essential.

A Tribute to Randy Owen’s Legacy

Randy Owen, the lead singer of Alabama, played a pivotal role in founding the Country Cares program. In recognition of his three decades of advocacy, a studio on the St. Jude campus has been dedicated to Randy and Kelly Owen. Randy expressed his gratitude, saying, “For 35 years, we’ve had the privilege of sharing the story of St. Jude with the world and seeing the impact our efforts make through meeting patients and their families.”

Honoring Country Music’s Commitment

The 2024 Angels Among Us award was presented to Old Dominion, honoring their contributions to St. Jude. They join a prestigious list of previous recipients, including Randy Owen, Brothers Osborne, Scotty McCreery, Lady A, Jake Owen, and Brad Paisley. The award recognizes country artists who have shown exceptional dedication to supporting St. Jude’s mission.

The Ongoing Mission of St. Jude

Through Music Gives to St. Jude Kids®, one of the nation’s leading music fundraising programs, the country music industry raises more than $70 million annually. These funds go toward aiding children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. According to Richard C. Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising organization for St. Jude, “Thanks to the support of this amazing community, St. Jude can continue to ensure that no family receives a bill from St. Jude for that treatment so they can focus on helping their child live.”
