What inspired you to record your version of O Holy Night?
As a long time member of the First Baptist Church in my hometown of Taylorsville, KY, I spent my entire childhood singing this song. It was inspired by just growing up in a smalltown family, attending church and really loving Christmas music, being a firm believer in Jesus and celebrating his birth on Christmas day. This song was always in our collection. The older that I have gotten, my love for old gospel classic hymns and carols continues to grow on me. Last year, I cut the gospel favorite Amazing Grace with the Legendary Oak Ridge Boys! I knew I had to record “O Holy Night” once I started asking my fans online and working through the catalogue to figure out what Christmas songs I would record this year. Fans love this one and it was right in my wheelhouse!
What does “O Holy Night” mean to you personally?
I grew up listening and singing the song as a child. Mom and Dad instilled Christmas music in us as kids. It still soothing to me to hear all these songs and especially O Holy Night! It was a no brainer when going in to the studio. The song reflects on the night of Jesus’ birth and it’s one of the those songs so many millions of people around the world hear every season.
What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions?
I grew up on a tobacco farm in Taylorsville, Kentucky and have celebrated Christmas since birth with my family! My parents take pride in decorating the house where I grew up every year and they always provide delicious meals! Thats my favorite!! That includes country ham all the fixins! Enough food to feed an army!!! I always enjoy traveling back home to visit family during the holidays and especially with my wife and 4 year old son. So many great traditions of doing things around the farm, Christmas Gatherings, catching up family, church, gifts and so much more. It really is a special time for us!
What’s your favorite gift you’ve ever given or received?
There have been several amazing gifts throughout the years! A dirt bike from Santa back in the 90’s, my restored Camaro from my parents in 2016 and the birth of our son in 2020! I have endless amounts of memories of favorite gifts through the years. I still remember the time Santa brought us the Super Nintendo, games and a brand new TV! It was happiness in a kid that you cannot describe. My parents have done so much to make the holidays special my entire life and for that I am grateful.
