Gavin Lee: Welding to Music
Gavin Lee attended Fort Myers Technical College where he earned his degree in welding. He never lost sight of his country music dreams, but didn’t have much experience on stage performing in front of people. It took a low-point in his life to change that narrative. He got up on stage and performed for a crowd of three-hundred people.
Gavin explains, “People loved it. And I thought to myself, ‘Well maybe there is something to this.’ And I went with it.” The artist further explains that he now loves, “Hearing stories from other artists, and doing pretty cool things in the business.”
Some of the Gavin’s favorite country music influences include Lynyrd Skynyrd, Luke Combs, and Morgan Wallen. Gavin says that his musical sound is not styled after any of his influences. Rather, he enjoys writing songs based off of real-life experiences he’s had.
“My song ‘Old Chevy’ is situated on a real-life experience I had. My step-father, who recently passed away due to Leukemia, bought me a 1992 Chevy truck a few years back. So I wrote the song as a story based on what happened during that time in my life,” Gavin explains.
Since learning how to grow from the grief thrust upon him, Gavin copes by writing and performing his own music in front of people. However, like many other country music artists, it has been about a year since Gavin has been able to perform in front of people. Of course, this is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on communities.
Originally from Fort Myers, Florida, Gavin Lee moved to Michigan four months ago where he claims that “…it has been hard to really do anything performance-wise because of the state’s lockdown and curfew mandates.”
But with the rise of COVID-19 vaccinations and ability to get outside and gather with others again, Gavin hopes to have a small show or two in the near future in his current home-state of Michigan.
Gavin Lee ‘Friend With A Beer’
The story of Gavin’s most recent single ‘Friend With A Beer’ was developed by his writer and good friend Will Rambeaux.
The song released a few months ago and refers to the lifestyle of the easy going, everyday American. “It is about how we have everyday American problems. But in the end we often just wish we had a friend with a beer,” Gavin explains. He also states that “All the people in the song’s video are my friends. We recorded the video last summer while having a good time together. So that is exactly what I want this video and song to represent: partying and having a good time.”
‘Friend With A Beer’ is a lot more easy-going in comparison to his previous three songs. Furthermore, Gavin wants his latest single to relate to the general public as a whole. Looking into the future, the country music artist has no plans for an EP or album this year. However, the Florida-native has some singles that are unreleased and ready for the public.
Lastly, Gavin Lee wishes to thank everyone who has helped him get to where he is today, because “life ain’t always easy.”
