Houston Bernard Interview & “Small Town Saturday Night” Cover

During CRS 2021, we had the opportunity to connect with artists and learn more about them. Houston Bernard told us about how he got started in country music, what he’s looking forward to in 2021, and more!

What was your first memory of listening to country music?

In my dad’s truck, wanna say it was some classic Willie Nelson

Who inspires you?

Stories of hard working people, the videos of soldiers coming home and greeting their kids always touches me deeply.

What did you do before you became a country artist?

I have a long list of jobs, roofing, massage therapist, bartender, sales, mover, I was also in the army.

What’s your songwriting process like?

For writing I get an idea or inspiration and then I sit and write. Sometimes I’ll have some whiskey and rock out and find a groove or melody and then site down and write.

Is there anything fun/unique you do to get ready for a show?

I like to stretch out before a show, it helps me relax and get in the zone.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a country artist?

Focus on longevity and the love the art not fame.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music or performing?

I play basketball, mountain bike or some sort of active sport.

What are you most excited about for 2021?

I have a couple shows booked, I hope they happen and I’m really excited about sharing more of the music I have been writing.
