Castaway with rising artist Jarod Grubb in his latest single, “Tiki Bar on the Beach,”

Raised in the mountains of Montana, Jarod Grubb vocalizes his easygoing nature in his latest single. “Tiki Bar on the Beach.”

Jarod Grubb fell into the music sphere in elementary school when his mother forced him to learn piano.

“I say forced jokingly because I was 6 years old. I was more into sports than piano. I really didn’t like it but I’m so thankful she kept me in it,” he said with a laugh.

With Glacier National Park as his playground, he had room to explore his inner creativity and growing passion for music in a diverse way.

“My youth [was] spent in the great Montana outdoors,” he said.

With a track and baseball scholarship in college, Grubb decided to try the guitar. Not soon after he began songwriting.

“I never really played out, I just did it for fun. As soon as I picked up the guitar I started writing and really just wrote because I loved it,” he explained.

A few years after college, he entered into the Colgate Country Showdown when he was living in his hometown, Calspal, Montana.

With both a newly painting and sailing business to keep his weekdays busy, he noticed that the competition was hosting tryouts on a Saturday. “I had this Saturday off so I entered and there was like 500 people that tried out and I made the top 25,” he said.

Although not many artists can say their first real performance was in front of thousands in an arena, Grubb can. “We played in the only sizeable arena in the area. I ended up winning and then going to state,” he said.

The experience helped him realize the journey music can take him. He began playing weekly shows at local bars.

One performance at a songwriters showcase went on to impact his future drastically. “Gary Tackett invited me.. and so I showed up and played a couple. He was like ‘these are great’ and told me I have to move to Nashville if I want to have a future in the music business,” he said.

Three weeks later Grubb did just that.

“I literally just got in my car, quit my job [and] drove to Nashville,” he said.

With no plan or idea of what’s next, Grubb began the next chapter of his life in the heart of country music.

His new single, “Tiki Bar on the Beach,” was the first song he wrote in Nashville

“I’ve written tons of songs since then, but this is the first one and it really was meant to be a song writing exercise,” he said.

He premiered the tune at Tootsies and Honkey Tonk Central. Getting a good response from the crowd, Grubb pushed the song forward, soon recording and releasing it.

As he continues to turn the page of this new chapter, Grubb says he wants to consistently release music like “Tiki on the Beach.”

“One of my dreams is to have a house on the beach [where] you can find me at the tiki bar,” he concluded.
