Jo Dee Messina Reveals New Album Bridges

Chart topping and two time Grammy nominated country artist Jo Dee Messina has announced the upcoming release of her new album Bridges, marking her first full length project in more than a decade. The album is scheduled to arrive in summer 2026.

Messina is known for her powerful voice and an extensive catalog that includes nine No. 1 hits and 16 Top 40 songs. Over the years she has also received awards and nominations from organizations such as Billboard, the Academy of Country Music, the Country Music Association, and the American Music Awards.

Alongside the album announcement, Messina has released the project’s first single, “Some Bridges,” which is available now.

“Some Bridges” Sets the Tone for the Album

“Some Bridges” was written by Messina with acclaimed songwriters Kat Higgins and James T. Slater. Higgins has written songs recorded by artists such as Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, and Ashley McBryde, while Slater’s songwriting credits include work with Martina McBride, Keith Urban, and Tim McGraw.

The track was mixed by five time Grammy winning producer, engineer, and mixer Chris Lord-Alge. Lord-Alge previously worked on several of Messina’s biggest hits, including her 1996 breakout song Heads Carolina, Tails California.

The single also lays the emotional groundwork for the themes explored throughout Bridges. While most albums capture a single chapter in an artist’s life, this project reflects something much broader for Jo Dee Messina. As she explains, “Most albums reflect a season; Jo Dee Messina’s new album, Bridges, is 10 years’ worth of seasons rolled up into one. The love, the life, the pain, the fight, the learning and the living through it all.”

Reflecting on Change and Moving Forward

The new music explores the reality that life constantly changes, even when those changes are difficult.

“We are often told not to burn bridges and it’s good advice,” says Messina. “I’ve lived long enough to know that’s true. But there are also exceptions, and sometimes it’s OK to let that baby burn. In life, sometimes we just need to look forward and keep going.”

Over the past decade, Messina has faced many personal challenges, including loss, struggle, and illness. Through it all, she says her music, her children, and her faith have helped carry her forward. Those experiences are woven throughout the songs on Bridges.

A Lasting Influence on Country Music

Throughout her career, Messina has built a legacy that continues to influence newer artists across country music. Her work has helped inspire performers from Ella Langley and Lainey Wilson to Cole Swindell, who referenced her classic hit “Heads Carolina, Tails California” in one of his own songs.

Her music has also been revisited by artists such as Sierra Ferrell and Nikki Lane, who recorded a cover of Messina’s song “Lesson in Leavin’.”

With Bridges, Messina continues to build on a career that has spanned decades and connected with fans across generations.
