Jon Wolfe and Randy Rogers Toast to Honky-Tonk Nights with “Tequila Cowboys”

Jon Wolfe and Randy Rogers

Texas country traditionalist Jon Wolfe has teamed up with Randy Rogers, frontman of the Randy Rogers Band, for a high-energy new single called “Tequila Cowboys.” Written by Wolfe, Rogers, Dave Brainard, and Tony Ramey, and produced by Brainard, the track delivers a barroom-ready singalong celebrating friendship, freedom, and late-night revelry.

The song paints a vivid picture of everyday workers who trade in their responsibilities for a night of whiskey, laughter, and honky-tonk escapades.

Raising a Glass to Camaraderie

“I love the humor and sentiment in this song,” Wolfe told Whiskey Riff. “It’s about the camaraderie of a bunch of guys getting together from all walks of life, saddlin’ up at the bar on a Friday night. In their minds they’re Texas Rangers trying to save the world, but really they’re just the town drunks… kinda hits home!”

Rogers added, “‘Tequila Cowboys’ is kinda like the workin’ man’s blues. White collar or blue collar, we are all in this together.”

Building on Recent Releases

“Tequila Cowboys” arrives on the heels of Wolfe’s July single, “The Older I Get (More Country I’m Gettin’ To Be).” That track, with its nostalgic nods to country icons and a chorus tailor-made for backroads and dance halls, further cemented Wolfe’s reputation for honoring traditional country values while keeping his sound fresh.

Wolfe’s Ongoing Impact

Earlier this month, Wolfe also gave back to his Texas community with Jon Wolfe and Friends: Hill Country Flood Relief Benefit, held on August 10 at Gruene Hall. Partnering with KNBT 92.1 FM, the event raised more than $115,000 to support those impacted by flooding in Kerr County and nearby areas.

The night featured an impressive lineup of performers, including Tracy Byrd, Kevin Fowler, Roger Creager, William Beckmann, Radney Foster, Kelly Willis, Jake Worthington, Kylie Frey, Bleu Edmondson, Billie Jo Jones, Walker Montgomery, David Lewis, Clay Hollis, and Cody Hibbard.

About Jon Wolfe

Born in Tulsa and raised in the nearby small town of Miami, Oklahoma, Jon Wolfe showed his creativity early on. Over the years, he became a staple in the Texas country scene, rising alongside names like Hayes Carll and Randy Rogers.

His discography includes fan-favorite projects such as It All Happened in a Honky Tonk, Natural Man, and Any Night in Texas, which featured the viral hit “Boots on a Dance Floor.” His most recent album, Dos Corazones, offered a more introspective and sonically adventurous side of Wolfe, solidifying him as a songwriter of depth and vision.

Now, with a new slate of music in the works, Wolfe continues to evolve. Working closely with collaborators Dave Brainard and Tony Ramey, he remains focused on authenticity. As Wolfe himself explains, “I’m not chasing fame. I’m chasing the spark. Whether it’s a song, a painting, or a label on a bottle, I just want to make something real.”
