The 54th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards were presented Sunday the 7th in Las Vegas. If you are familiar with the ACMs or CMAs, then you know the most coveted award is always given last: Entertainer of the Year. Echoing the CMAs in November, Keith Urban won this category for the 2019 ACMs. Though Urban has been nominated in this category at the ACMs nine times since 2004, he has never won, until now!
Showing love for family, Keith always dotingly thanks wife Nicole Kidman, addressing her as “Baby Girl.” Also addressed were the couple’s two daughters, Sunday and Faith, whom Keith said were watching from home. Right after they announced his winning, Keith and wife Nicole Kidman had quite the kiss! It is clear those two are very much smitten after nearly 13 years of marriage.
In line with his love of family, Keith also respects his peers. Urban gave hugs to all the other nominees in EOTY category. That just shows how humble and close country acts are. The respect they have for the music, and one another, is truly inspiring.
Earlier in the night, Urban performed a cover of “Burden,” chosen by Keith in honor of those whom are going through a hard time right now. This very somber song was originally written and recorded by Foy Vance. With lyrics of “No matter how much you’re hurtin’ right now- you know that everything will change in time,” Urban strikes a great contrast from the CMA awards, where he gave an upbeat performance of his hit single “Never Comin’ Down”. Urban’s ability to reach emotions on all levels is just part of the reason why he won EOTY for both the CMAs and ACMs.
In a post ACM interview Urban exclaimed that it’s an award to be nominated. Stating winning is “just the whipped cream on ice cream.” With the diverse talent of performance, voice and writing, Urban is definitely a deserving recipient of these top awards. His humble attitude is just the cherry on top.
