Kree Harrison Talks New Album

Kree Harrison recently released her single, “I Love the Lie” written by Chris Stapleton, Morgane Stapleton, and Liz Rose. This single is the first one off of her upcoming album, which we can expect later this summer. Although she did not write “I Love the Lie,” you can expect that there will be some songs written by Harrison on her album, “more than half and there’s a couple of covers too.” Kree wanted to give a proper “thank you” to her influences, which is why she included the covers.

Growing up she listened to Otis Redding and a lot of 90’s country which she attributes to her sound and influence as well. She knew she wanted to do more soulful stuff than the Country music she grew up listening and says, “I realized the older I got, I didn’t have to choose one or the other.” You can tell in her songs that she can mix the soul and Country really well together.

She was playing her album fully live for the first time at Acme in downtown Nashville during CMA Fest, her goal was that anything you hear on the album, she wanted to be able to fully portray it live. “I want to play this everywhere,” she says about her album. She has spent a long time on this album and put a lot of work into it and she says she’s proud of all of the songs on it.

Her advice to singers/songwriters is to “stay true to you,” and she lives by that. “Tell your truth. For people to believe you and relate to you and connect is only if you believe it yourself.” Kree follows her own advice as well because she doesn’t cut a song that she personally can’t relate to. Talking about “I Love the Lie,” she says “I have loved the lie before,” a song and line that many people can probably relate to as well.

Although Kree has a busy summer and year coming up for her, she still does have hobbies outside of music. “I love to cook,” says Kree, “It’s kind of therapeutic sometimes.” She also enjoys hanging out with her friends when they aren’t all on tour, though she will be the one touring soon.

If we can take one thing from away from Kree, it would be to “tell your truth,” a motto I’m sure we will discover throughout her album and her new single which will be released sometime before the album drops!
