If you haven’t seen Kyle Daniel perform live, you definitely need to. Kyle’s favorite part about performing shows is the energy transmission between the music and the fans, how it circulates from one to the other. He talked about the thrill of playing in a city where he’s unknown. “For me, it’s going somewhere where nobody knows who you are and you walk away with five or six super fans,” he explained.
His most memorable show was the Southern Rock Cruise. People from all over the world were there and his music was exposed to people from many places. It was his first real jaunt outside of Nashville.
Creating the Music
Kyle released two EPs and he created them in two completely different ways. For the first one, he had the material, the best players in Nashville, and it was done in about a day. Everything came together so quickly by happenstance and it organically came out that way. He said, “We were happy with it. There was no sense of overthinking it and nitpicking it.”
For the second EP, he wanted to show growth and maturity. He began the project with a vision of what it should be, so he took his time and worked to get it right. He described the second one as a little heavier-handed and has a little more “gut” to it.
“Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked”
Prior to starting the second EP, Kyle learned that he needed to have ear surgery and later found out that he could have lost his hearing completely. He had the same surgery on the right ear first, so he kind of knew what was happening. The left one was more severe and took much longer than the other, with two bones destroyed by infection. His first month in recovery was some of the worst pain he’s ever had with any surgery. “Nothing would help. I couldn’t sleep. I was just in constant pain,” he shared.
He needed time to heal, but didn’t want to use it as an excuse for why the record was delayed. “In the end it was the best thing that could have happened,” he explained, because he was stronger vocally and felt better in the studio.
