Manny Blu Expands His Creative Vision

Manny Blu had a busy 2021, releasing two EPs, Country Punk EP and DEViL. He has exciting things going on in 2022 and we sat down with him at CRS in Nashville to discuss them, along with his creative vision expanding into more than just music.

2022 Tour

This year, Blu is looking forward to playing the largest series of venues he’s performed in at this point. He’s excited not only about performing, but the fact that he’ll be on tour with amazing artists, some of whom he’s seen live before. This May, he’ll be joining Dallas Smith on his “Some Things Never Change” tour in Canada.

“Prove Me Wrong” video

Blu recently filmed the video for “Prove Me Wrong” where he took on the additional roles of director and co-producer. For his first video, he participated as the artist, but tended to observe the process to see how things worked.

After his first video was complete, he decided he wanted to be more involved and voiced his ideas for “Prove Me Wrong.” He selected the location and wanted to bring elements that were visual: colorful, chaotic, and lots of lights.

“I knew exactly what I wanted for it,” he said and mentioned that he was willing to try something new. His thought process was,“This was a bonus album, so let’s have fun with it.”

We can expect Blu to be even more integrated with anything surrounding his music. “I want to get more involved with everything that’s creative that comes out with my name on it,” he shared.

Formulating His Sound

Blu first started playing guitar after listening to a lot of great blues guitar players.

John Mayer influenced his versatility. He noted that Mayer is extremely talented and can play with the fantastic blues players, but at the same time, he became a household name, appealing to a wider audience.

When you listen to Manny Blu, you’ll notice a country/rock/punk blend that he implemented after realizing there’s a lot more out there than what’s on the radio, with many possible combinations. The blend of genres elicits a unique sound that’s pretty catchy.

What’s Next for Manny Blu
