Mary Sarah just released an exciting new take on “Country Roads” and also shared some details on her upcoming new music.
“Country Roads” Adorned with Jingle Bells
Boot Barn approached Mary Sarah to record a version of the song for their commercial and she had an idea. The lyrics describe coming home to where the singer belongs. That sentiment resonated with the Nashville resident, as she plans to head back to Texas for the holidays to be with family. As a result, she suggested adding some Christmas flair with Jingle Bells.
Christmas, for Mary Sarah, is about being with family. The singer hopes to start new Christmas traditions with her ten-month-old daughter Avalyn and make lasting memories with her loved ones.
40th Anniversary of “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma”
Earlier this year, Mary Sarah accomplished something that very few people have done. She re-recorded a duet of one of her favorite songs for its 40th anniversary. Originally recorded by David Frizzell and Shelly West, “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” was named one of the top duets of all time by CMT in 2005 and is one of Mary Sarah’s favorite songs to sing.
“I am so beyond honored and excited to be a part of such a classic and iconic song. It’s honestly crazy how things come full circle in life,” she began. I have sung “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma” since I was a little girl with my dad and did I ever think that there would be a day where I would get to pay tribute and sing it with David Frizzell himself?! Not at all. So, this is so very big for me and I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed remaking it!!. Thank you to David and Shelly for creating such an amazing song and allowing me to be a small part in sharing it with the world.”
Behind the Scenes
Mary Sarah has been entertaining audiences for over ten years. You may recognize her from the 10th season of NBC’s The Voice, where she was a top-five finalist. She got her start in the Texas Opry circuit and went on to tour with Kidz Bop at the age of 12. Her defining moment occurred when she saw Patsy Cline’s signature on one of the walls of the theaters they performed in. She immediately told her parents that singing was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.
In 2012, her album Bridges contained duets with many well-known country stars, like Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, and much more – all before the age of 18.
