A lot has happened with Paige King Johnson since we last spoke with her. Not only did she team up with the fabulous Pam Tillis who directed her video for “Just Like You,” but she also signed a record deal with PCG records as their first artist! Now, she’s set to release her latest single “Baby Don’t” on October 15.
Working with Pam Tillis
Directing Johnson’s video launched a great friendship and working relationship for Tillis and Johnson. “In the industry, you sometimes get a little scared to meet some of your heroes because they don’t turn out exactly like you thought they would be,” Johnson shared. “Pam has completely defied all of those insecurities for me because she’s been such a light for me.”
Their friendship and working relationship began during 2020 when everything was shut down. The timing worked out well, since Tillis was not touring, like everyone else, and had the capacity to take on additional projects. Tillis stated that she’d never really worked with younger artists, but liked Johnson’s sound and felt confident in her ability to succeed.
“Baby Don’t”
Tillis suggested “Baby Don’t” as Johnson’s next release, which is her first song where she didn’t participate in its creation. Tillis said, “Paige, you need to hear this song. If you don’t record it, you’re crazy. This sounds just like you.”
Johnson explained, “I immediately called her and I was like ‘Yes, we have to record this song!’” They went to the studio a few weeks later to record.
Written by Liz Rose, Lori McKenna, and Hillary Lindsey, the catchy tune has a flirty vibe, alluding to potential romantic outcomes. The style aligns with Johnson’s vocals beautifully.
PCG Records
When asked how it felt to take a leap forward in her career, Johnson responded, “Crazy, scary, amazing!”
She had been working with PCG on the development side for a couple of years and they ended up signing Johnson as their first artist. They offered her a unique deal where she can still make decisions regarding the direction of her music. Now, she’ll benefit from a team behind her.
