A Landmark Year for Paul Cauthen
The 2024 tour follows a landmark year for Paul Cauthen. In October, he released his critically acclaimed album Black on Black via Atlantic Records, further cementing his place in the country and Americana scene. This year, he also made headlines by joining Lana Del Rey on stage at Stagecoach for a duet of “Unchained Melody.” Additionally, Cauthen was featured on Shaboozey’s latest album, contributing to the track “Last of my Kind.”
Black on Black: A Road-Trip-Inspired Masterpiece
Cauthen’s latest album, Black on Black, reflects his years of travel across America, both on his motorcycle and in his tour bus. The album was largely recorded at Rosewood Studios in his hometown of Tyler, TX, in collaboration with longtime producer Jason Burt (known for his work with John Mayer and Leon Bridges). The album’s raw, authentic sound draws from Cauthen’s vast experiences on the road and his rich musical heritage.
Known for his remarkable baritone voice, Cauthen has earned the nickname “Big Velvet” due to his smooth, soulful delivery. He grew up singing in the church choir and developed his craft in East Texas, where he was part of a tight-knit creative community.
From Sons of Fathers to Solo Success
Paul Cauthen’s journey began as a member of the roots duo Sons of Fathers before he struck out on his own as a solo artist. His debut album, My Gospel, set the stage for a successful solo career, followed by two more critically acclaimed albums: Room 41 (2019) and Country Coming Down (2022). Throughout his career, Cauthen has continued to rise through the ranks of country and Americana music, gaining a reputation as a dynamic live performer.
Cauthen’s reputation for unforgettable live shows has led him to collaborate with and share stages with numerous artists, including Margo Price, Orville Peck, Elle King, Midland, and Cody Jinks. His electrifying performances continue to captivate audiences across the globe.
