QHMG / Quartz Hill Records’ Runaway June have unveiled their 13-track sophomore album, New Kind of Emotion. Available now across digital platforms, the project balances country-pop polish with traditional fiddle, mandolin, and pedal steel, creating a sound that is both modern and deeply rooted in country tradition.

“It’s a modern country celebration of good times and girl power, friendship and independence, and romantic love that’s wanted but not needed,” the trio shared. Founding member Jennifer Wayne summed it up simply: “Even the sad songs are fun!”

Authentic Sound, Years in the Making

Band members Jennifer Wayne (vocals, rhythm guitar), Natalie Stovall (vocals, fiddle, mandolin), and Stevie Woodward (lead vocals, guitar, harmonica) co-wrote 11 of the 13 songs. They worked with a powerhouse lineup of producers, including Kristian Bush, Ron Fair, Mickey Jack Cones, Stone Aielli, and Austin Moody.

“I want people to know that this album is authentically Runaway June,” Natalie explained. “It spans a three-year period for us, and you’ll hear different influences. It really puts a stamp on that moment in time.”

Album Highlights

The focus track, “Drink Champagne,” is a Latin-inspired party anthem that reflects the trio’s heritage and backstage tradition of popping bubbly before shows. Written by Runaway June and produced by Ron Fair, it’s a toast to everyday celebrations.

Other highlights include:

  • “Stars on the Ceiling” – A nostalgic escape back to childhood wonder.
  • “Sad Girl” – A fierce anthem of empowerment.
  • “Come Home to Me” – An Irish-inspired ballad showcasing Natalie’s fiddle.
  • “New Kind of Emotion” – The title track and current radio single, praised by Billboard as a “Must-Hear New Country Song.”
  • “He Ain’t My Problem” – A playful breakup anthem named MusicRow’s “Disc of the Day.”
  • “To Be Yours” – A tender love song inspired by Stevie’s engagement.
