Shane Michael Taylor’s Newest Single “I’m Giving In” Tackles Tough Topics

Who is Shane Michael Taylor?

Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, Shane Michael Taylor is a remarkable man who has overcome obstacles and transcended physical limitations to become a respected author, songwriter, and motivational speaker. Now a resident of Music City, Taylor navigates the world in a wheelchair battling daily with communication hurdles as a result of being born with a severe form of cerebral palsy, a developmental disorder affecting movement, speech, and posture. Making excuses however was never an option for Taylor who at just the age of five taught himself how to type with his nose. In his later years Taylor has transferred this interest into songwriting.

“I’m Giving In”

Taylor’s newest single, “I’m Giving In” premiered on Country Music Television on July 23, and is now available on all platforms. The slow melodic swing of the melody is accompanied by lyrics that shine a spotlight on dishonest practices that are prevalent in the licensed caregiver industry but are rarely talked about.

“I just feel very grateful and blessed to be in the position to get to release something like this right now,” says Taylor. “I was afraid it was too dark to put out and honestly, I became the guy in the song about a year after we wrote it.”

Taylor admits that the song, “is certainly not the kind of thing you hear on the radio today, but as someone who grew up on Reba, Garth, Martina and listening to all 90s country, I was inspired when I heard a new song on the radio and it shook me. The idea that a songwriter and an artist who didn’t even know me could touch me so deeply is the very reason I got into music,” Taylor explains.

The song centers around finding ones inner strength to rise above and overcome thoughts of suicide amid challenging times. Taylor says that he was compelled to write this inspirational tune while reflecting on his personal obstacles living with Cerebral Palsy, as well as the common feeling of isolation, loneliness, and fear throughout the world during the ongoing pandemic. The music video also shines light on the abuse of power and unfortunate mistreatment that goes unspoken, specifically regarding those relying on others for their daily care.
