Spencer Hatcher has officially released his six-track debut EP, Honky Tonk Hideaway, marking an exciting entry into the modern country traditionalist scene. The EP is a lively, good-time collection for fans who enjoy country music with authentic storytelling, front-porch melodies, and plenty of pedal steel.
The project features Hatcher’s debut single, “When She Calls Me Cowboy,” which earned immediate success as a Top 10 Most Added Song at U.S. Country Radio (Mediabase) and garnered double-digit adds out of the gate. The music video for the track also reached No. 3 on Taste of Country’s fan-voted “Top 10 Video Countdown” and has remained in the Top 5 for the past three weeks.
“This EP represents the country music I want to make and the country music my fans tell me they want to hear,” Hatcher shared in an interview. “I grew up loving artists like Johnny Cash, Keith Whitley and Elvis, and my hope is that now my own songs will make people feel as good as my heroes’ songs made me feel.”
A Track-by-Track Look at Honky Tonk Hideaway
The EP opens with its title track, “Honky Tonk Hideaway,” a rollicking country rocker about a place where listeners can leave their troubles at the door. With wild keyboard riffs reminiscent of Jerry Lee Lewis and fiery fiddle playing echoing Charlie Daniels, the song was penned by hit songwriters Jeffrey Steele and Brice Long.
Other standout tracks include:
- “The Way She Lies” – A heart-wrenching story of love and betrayal, praised by Saving Country Music as one of the best singles of 2025 so far.
- “On the Inside” – A boot-scootin’ tune reminding fans that heartbreak shouldn’t prevent a good time.
- “Has Anybody Ever” – A romantic toe-tapper exploring the curiosity and vulnerability of new love.
- “Cold Beer and Common Sense” – A unifying anthem about shared values, emphasizing connection over division.
Produced by Jason Sellers, Ilya Toshinskiy (Jelly Roll), and Mickey Jack Cones (Joe Nichols), the EP showcases Hatcher’s dedication to traditional country sounds with a contemporary twist.
Spencer Hatcher on Crafting the EP
In an interview, Hatcher shared that he was deeply involved in every aspect of the EP’s creation, from song selection to production decisions. He explained that his approach to sequencing the tracks was meant to create a natural flow, similar to crafting a live set list, balancing slow and upbeat songs to keep listeners engaged.
Hatcher emphasized that the music is rooted in real country. “I do believe that what me and my team are creating is about as raw, pure and straight country music as it gets. I mean, we got pedal steel, we got fiddles, we’ve got the twang of the electric guitar. And I’m really happy with how everything’s been turning out. And I hope that the people can look at me and say, ‘You know, Spencer Hatcher is a real country artist.’”
On performing unreleased tracks live, Hatcher highlighted the title track, noting its strong audience reception during recent Texas shows. He also reflected on the success of “When She Calls Me Cowboy,” calling its fan response “a dream come true” and expressing gratitude for the support.
Hatcher also shared that “Has Anybody Ever” resonates strongly with listeners because of its relatability, with fans sharing personal stories about love and lost connections. He cited “Cold Beer and Common Sense” as a personally meaningful track, highlighting its message of unity and common ground despite differences.
