Walker Montgomery Releases Classic Breakup Ballad ‘Right in The Middle’

Walker Montgomery

Red Street Records neo-traditionalist Walker Montgomery is back with a sweetly poignant heartbreak ballad. “Right in The Middle” is available everywhere today. Stream it HERE.

Written by Clint Daniels, Michael White and Jeff Hyde, the single leans into production that feels faintly nostalgic yet simultaneously fresh. Montgomery’s velvet voice floats through waves of regret and stirs up the kind of emotion that classic country ballads are built for. The Kentucky native once again proves why he’s one of the best song interpreters of his generation.

“Classic break up songs are a staple in traditional country music. ‘Right in the Middle’ is just that. Country to the core with that classic sound that’s straight out of 1995,” says Montgomery.

Watch the Official Visualizer

Alongside today’s release, fans can watch Montgomery deliver a compelling performance of the new single in an official visualizer, directed by Olivia Pierce and Red Street’s Cambria Sojka.

Heartbreak on the Record, Happily Ever After Off It

While “Right in The Middle” tells a story of heartache, Walker’s real life is quite the opposite. Just weeks ago he married the love of his life, Krista Slaubaugh of Tigirlily Gold. Their wedding, which coupled Krista’s Western upbringing with Walker’s Southern one, was featured exclusively on People.com.

Carving His Own Path in Traditional Country

Chosen as an “Artist to Watch“, Walker Montgomery knows a thing or two about family tradition. He is the son of ’90s superstar John Michael Montgomery and the nephew of Montgomery Gentry’s Eddie Montgomery, but he is carving a path all his own.

Walker made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 2024. His self-penned independent debut hit “Simple Town” has garnered more than 7.3 million Spotify streams, and his romantic power-ballad “She Don’t Know” has topped 20 million streams worldwide. His version of “I Love the Way You Love Me” has more than 45 million views on TikTok, and the new traditionalist has over 99.1 million cumulative independent global music streams. He has also released the EPs RUST and WORK TO DO.

On the road, Walker has opened for Cody Johnson, Randall King and others. In 2026 he signed with Red Street Records and released his debut single for the label, “Saving The Honky Tonks,” which inspired his first national headline run, The Saving The Honky Tonks Tour. “Right in The Middle” is the latest chapter in that traditionalist streak.
