Turnpike Troubadours: A Triumphant Return and Album Announcement

One of America’s most beloved independent bands, Turnpike Troubadours, recently made a triumphant comeback with two sold-out headline shows at the Beacon Theatre in New York. The band’s live performances have been nothing short of electric, as they also performed at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field alongside Luke Combs and made their debut at the Newport Folk Festival. To the delight of their fans, Turnpike Troubadours surprised the audience by inviting Tyler Childers to join them on stage to perform “The Bird Hunters” and John Prine’s “Paradise.”

The band’s lead singer, Evan Felker, further showcased his talent by joining Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit for a memorable collaboration on their song “King of Oklahoma,” earning accolades from Rolling Stone as “the collab you need to see.”

This landmark year for Turnpike Troubadours is set to get even more exciting, as they are gearing up to release their highly anticipated new album, “A Cat in the Rain,” on August 25 via Bossier City Records/Thirty Tigers. The album, produced by Shooter Jennings and recorded at Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals and Dave’s Room in Los Angeles, marks their much-awaited return following a self-imposed hiatus in 2019.

Ahead of the album release, fans can get a taste of their new music with the debut of the song “Brought Me” on August 4, following the album tracks “Chipping Mill” and lead single “Mean Old Sun,” which recently reached #1 at both Americana and Texas Radio. Billboard hails “Mean Old Sun” as a “fleet-fingered foot-stomper that conveys the group’s superior, tightly-knit musicianship and ever maturing, evocative lyricism,” and Brooklyn Vegan describes it as a “triumphant chorus…a big comeback.”

Turnpike Troubadours’ return to the music scene promises to deliver an authentic songwriting experience and their signature foot-stomping sound that has captivated their devoted fanbase since their 2005 debut. The band’s poetic lyricism and direct focus have garnered praise from Rolling Stone, which declares lead singer Evan Felker as “more focused and lyrically crisp than at any point in his life.”

With over 1.5 billion global streams and more than 1.28 million equivalent units sold to date, Turnpike Troubadours continues to be a trailblazer in the Red Dirt music scene. Their roots in Tahlequah, OK, have influenced their captivating music, with Felker (vocals, guitar), Kyle Nix (fiddle), Ryan Engleman (electric guitar), RC Edwards (bass), Gabe Pearson (drums), and Hank Early (steel, accordion) forming the core of the band.

Their previous self-released album, “A Long Way From Your Heart” (2017), reached #3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and #20 on the all-genre Billboard 200. American Songwriter praised the album for its subtle authenticity and natural charm, while the Austin American Statesman hailed it as a rousing, thought-provoking country short story collection.

Adding to their impressive accolades, Turnpike Troubadours were recently inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, further solidifying their status as pioneers of the Red Dirt music scene.

As anticipation builds for the release of “A Cat in the Rain” and their upcoming tour, fans can’t wait to witness Turnpike Troubadours’ triumphant return to the stage and revel in the new music that promises to leave a lasting impact on the country music landscape.
