Rediscovering Patsy Cline: Long-Lost Recordings Unearthed
For Record Store Day 2025, country music fans are in for a rare treat—a never-before-released collection of Patsy Cline’s lost recordings spanning 1954 to 1963. Titled Imagine That: The Lost Recordings (1954-1963), this limited-edition, 2-LP set showcases unreleased performances, radio broadcasts, TV appearances, and demo recordings, providing a deeper look into the evolution of one of country music’s most iconic voices.
Curated by discographer George Hewitt and officially endorsed by the Patsy Cline Estate, the collection features 15 previously unheard songs, including “The Wrong Side of Town” and “Old Lonesome Time”. While some of these tracks have circulated as bootlegs over the years, this release marks their first official presentation on vinyl.
Tracing Patsy’s Journey: From Regional Star to National Icon
Presented in loose chronological order, the album follows Cline’s artistic evolution—from her humble beginnings as a featured vocalist with Bill Peer’s Melody Boys in 1954 to her Grand Ole Opry residency and national stardom by 1963. The collection also highlights the pivotal year of 1959, when Cline, then a young mother, relocated to Nashville and cemented her place in country music history.
“This collection offers the long-sought ‘missing middle’ by including many recordings from 1959, a defining year in Patsy’s career,” the producers noted. “It captures her transition from a rising star to a country music trailblazer, leading to the string of timeless hits that followed.”
A Carefully Restored and Limited Release
The album, pressed on 180-gram vinyl, is part of the ‘RSD First’ releases, meaning it will debut on April 12, 2025, for Record Store Day before being made available in CD and digital formats on April 18. The project features meticulous restoration work, ensuring that these recordings sound better than ever.
In addition to the music, fans will find an in-depth booklet featuring:
