Lainey Wilson continues to captivate fans with the release of the official music video for her critically acclaimed new single, “Somewhere Over Laredo.” Directed by award-winning filmmaker TK McKamy (Tim McGraw, Reba, Darius Rucker), the video takes viewers on a dreamlike journey through love, memory, and heartache, drawing inspiration from the timeless story of The Wizard of Oz.

Set in a surreal landscape of longing, Wilson follows a mysterious cowboy down her own version of the yellow brick road, weaving through symbolic scenes and emotional flashbacks in a lucid dream of love lost.

“In pursuit of love lost, I wanted this video to feel like falling through a rabbit hole of nostalgia,” said Wilson.

A Powerful Release Resonating with Fans and Critics

“Somewhere Over Laredo” quickly struck a chord with audiences, becoming the most added song at country radio during its first week. It also marked Wilson’s biggest first-day streaming debut with over 1.16 million streams across platforms in just 24 hours.

The song has earned glowing praise from CBS Mornings, Rolling Stone, and Billboard, which called it “one of her most commanding, dynamic vocal performances to date” and applauded its “tender vocal” that “gradually reaches into her upper register for powerful moments that heighten the song’s emotional acuity.”

Whirlwind Deluxe Edition Out August 22

“Somewhere Over Laredo” is one of five new songs featured on the deluxe edition of Wilson’s award-winning album Whirlwind, set for release August 22 via BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville in celebration of the album’s one-year anniversary. The extended version includes the original 14 tracks along with:

  • “Somewhere Over Laredo”
  • “Bell Bottoms Up”
  • “King Ranch, King George, King James”
  • “Yesterday, All Day, Every Day”
  • “Peace, Love, and Cowboys”

Pre-order and pre-save options are now available at laineywilson.com.

Produced by Jay Joyce (Miranda Lambert, Eric Church), Whirlwind was met with widespread acclaim. The Tennessean called it “the best release of her career,” and NPR Music noted that the project cements her place as “a major headlining country star.”

A Record-Breaking Year

Lainey Wilson’s momentum has only grown stronger in 2024. She took home four awards at the 60th Annual ACM Awards, including:

  • Entertainer of the Year (second consecutive win)
  • Female Artist of the Year (third consecutive win)
  • Album of the Year for Whirlwind
  • Artist-Songwriter of the Year

During the ceremony, she debuted the song “Trailblazer” with Reba McEntire and Miranda Lambert, co-written alongside Brandy Clark and Lambert.

Wilson was also inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, won Best Country Album at the 2024 Grammy Awards, and co-hosted the 58th CMA Awards with Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan. She also performed at the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Halftime Show and contributed “Out of Oklahoma” to the soundtrack of the new Twisters movie.

A True Country Force

In just the past year, Lainey Wilson has solidified her role as one of the most respected names in modern country. With eight No. 1 hits, including “Watermelon Moonshine,” “4x4xU,” and the 2x Platinum “Heart Like A Truck,” she continues to dominate charts and playlists.

Wilson has also collaborated with artists across genres, including:

  • Post Malone on “Nosedive”
  • Cole Swindell on “Never Say Never”
  • Jelly Roll on “Save Me”
  • HARDY on “wait in the truck”
  • Myles Smith on “Nice To Meet You”

Expanding her reach into film and television, Wilson previously starred in Yellowstone and is set to make her feature film debut in next year’s adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Reminders of Him.

“I believe in keeping the roots of country music alive,” Wilson says. “But I’m not afraid to blaze a new trail either.”
