Ben Gallaher has just released his latest album titled Country in the House. The album features 15 tracks including three new songs, “Lovin’ You Gets in the Way,” “Damn This Truck,” and “Have You Ever.” Of these, “Lovin’ You Gets in the Way” is co-penned by 3x ACM Entertainer of the Year, Jason Aldean, along with Neil Thrasher and Lee Miller. The song is set to be Gallaher’s next radio single.
Whether you are a longtime fan or new to his music, Country in the House promises to deliver a diverse range of songs that will cater to every listener’s taste. We sat down with Gallaher to find out more about the album.
What was your favorite part about making the album?
There’s a lot that goes into making an album, but it all starts with the songs. It’s really cool to see the progression of a song/songs from the day we write them, voice-memo the work tape, demo them in the studio, re-record them in the studio as a master, sing the final vocal, and then finally write and record the guitar solos. It’s hard to pick a favorite out of that process because each step is so different. It’s a creative journey. My favorite part is hearing the final mixed version for the first time.
What inspired you to select “Lovin’ You Gets in the Way” for your next radio single?
I remember the first time Neil Thrasher played me “Lovin’ You Gets in the Way,” and I said to him, “One day I’m going to record this song.” Fast forward 3 years, and now it’s my next single. I’m really thankful for the opportunity to cut this song and bring it to life. There’s something special about the angst and tension of the lyric, married to the melody on this song.
Can you talk about the stories behind “Damn This Truck,” and “Have You Ever”?
I’ve been driving the same truck since I was 16. I swear it has 9 lives. At this point, it’s become “how long can I get this 4X4 to last.” Every now and then you have to push it to start. That’s where the, “damn this truck, it’s got a mind of its own” lyric and idea came from. “Have You Ever” stands out because of the feel and vibe that it has. It’s a love song with a lyric full of images. It’s become one of my favorites on the record.
I’m a big fan of the “Boot Stomp” videos you’ve posted on social media! Do you have any plans for making videos in other unique settings, like you did with the 6666 Ranch?
Thanks! The Boot Stomp series on social media is a lot of fun. Definitely going to keep making them in unique locations. Any crazy ideas are welcome! Ha!
In addition to the album and the upcoming radio release, what upcoming plans do you have for this year?
We plan to be touring heavily in 2023 following the release of the record. There’s nothing I love more than playing these songs live.
