CMT To Celebrate The Life of Charley Pride On August 25

The Successful Career of Charley Pride

Charley Pride is one of the most celebrated country musicians of all time. His career spans for more than fifty years. During his lengthy and successful career, he has been credited with helping break color barriers by becoming the first black superstar within the genre. An incredible achievement, Pride has helped shine the light on the growing diversity of country music. A three-time GRAMMY award and Recording Academy “Lifetime Achievement Award” winner, Pride garnered thirty-six chart-topping country hits throughout his career. One of his most popular tracks, “Kiss An Angel Good Morning,” sold over a million singles and helped Pride land the CMA’s “Entertainer of the Year” award in 1971. In addition, the artist won “Top Male Vocalist” awards in 1971 and 1972.

The event will feature many of Pride’s famous friends and some of the biggest musicians in country music today. The lengthy list includes: Alan Jackson, Darius Rucker, Charley Pride’s son Dion Pride, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Gladys Knight, Jimmie Allen, Lee Ann Womack, and Luke Combs. The list goes on to feature Robert Randolph + Reyna Roberts, Mickey Guyton, and Wynonna. The special guests include: Neal McCoy, Nolan Ryan, Reba, Ronnie Milsap, and Charley’s wife Rozene Pride. Charlie Pride’s wife Rozene Pride shared: “I am delighted to have so many giants in the business celebrate the legacy of Pride. He would have been so happy to see the artists give so generously of their time and talent honoring him. This truly is a testament to the impact that he had on the country music community for so many years.”
