Gavin Lee: “American Crazy”
Gavin Lee, a Michigan-native, released his latest single “American Crazy” back on July 2, 2021. Just in time for Independence Day, the song relates to the “average, everyday, hard-working American.”
Gavin Lee tried to write “American Crazy” after the styles of his influences which include: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Morgan Wallen, and Luke Combs.
The artist explains, “I really believe that I wrote this record after these guys. Although, I really do love that ‘southern rock country’. When I think of the style, Jason Aldean comes to mind. Like I said, I really love southern rock country, and I hope people will be able to hear that on this song. However, when I play “American Crazy” back again and again, I feel more geared to create my own sound. This is something that I hope to do more of in the foreseeable future.”
“‘American Crazy’’ is a song that really flowed together. We wrote the song back when the pandemic was more prominent. We kept saying that everyone was going ‘American Crazy’, and it was just something that stuck. After that, we made the connection from what was going on in the world to the song title”, Gavin explains.
Music Video for “American Crazy” and Story Behind It
The idea for “American Crazy” has an interesting story to it.
The title came around when, “…a bunch of us were sitting around thinking of a song idea for something ‘American’. I remember we were trying to get on the ‘wilder side’ of country music with this song. And one of the lines goes, ‘there’s a big bonfire where everyone is getting ‘lit’.’ It’s a newer age of country thing, and it stuck out to me as a writer. Similarly, it is just one of those songs that wrote itself. What I really like about this song is that there are a lot of cultures mixed into it. So as you may imagine, it is a song for everybody,” the Michigan-native shares.

Follow-Up to “Friend With a Beer” and Plans for 2021
“Friend With A Beer”, Gavin’s last song, released in the spring. “The timing worked out really well for us, because we planned to release that song in early spring. So now that July 4th has come around, and of course it must be noted that the song has ‘American’ in the title, it felt like the right time to release ‘American Crazy’.”
Although Gavin Lee just released “American Crazy,” the artist already has plans to release new music by the end of 2021. In addition, Gavin says that he has some shows and roundtables on tap for this summer and fall in Nashville, Tennessee.
The last thing Gavin wants everyone to know is that you should “Never squat with your spurs on.”
