During CRS 2021, we had the opportunity to connect with artists and learn more about them. Hayden Haddock told us about how he got started in country music, what he does to prepare for a show, and more!
What was your first memory of listening to country music?
I remember my dad playing Randy Travis a lot when I was younger. That’s probably why I still love so many of his songs today. I also remember my brother listening to a lot of Tracy Lawrence when we would ride around in his truck.
Who inspires you?
There are many people who inspire me. My family definitely inspires me because they are all hard workers and they’re all successful at what they do, so I’m trying to put that same hard work into my music. In terms of music, my producer Trent Willmon is someone who inspires me. Also, guys like Cody Johnson, Jon Pardi, etc.
What did you do before you became a country artist and what made you decide that this is what you needed to do full time?
I was just a regular ole full time college student. All of this music stuff came on really quickly for me. I sang and played the guitar in front of a young lady for the first time ever in my life, and about a month later started playing shows and have been ever since.
Is there anything fun/unique you do to get ready for a show?
Before our shows, me and my band always listen to loud music, then a few minutes before show time we pray, and take a shot of whiskey!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a country artist?
I would say just follow your dream, but don’t think it’s going to be easy. This career definitely needs a lot of time and hard work. As long as you can put in the work and surround yourself with a great team, you’ll be set.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music or performing?
I love to barbecue. Cooking/BBQ is probably my next biggest passion. I also love to hunt and fish when I can find the time.
What are you most excited about for 2021?
I’m most excited about being able to get back on the road with a full tour schedule. After sitting at home so much in 2020 due to the pandemic, we’re ready to hit the road hard. I’m also super excited to get some new music out in 2021.
