When I talked to Country-Pop artist Madysyn on the phone last week, I would have never guessed she was from California with her Tennessean accent and southern charm that rang through the phone.

Under the local spotlight at nine years old, Madysyn started singing and playing piano as a young girl. “Music has been the one constant in my life and it’s kind of been, ever since a young age, a hobby of mine and something I was really passionate in. The older I got, I started to get more serious about it and was like this is really what I want to do,” she explained. Madysyn got engrossed in the country-pop music scene at age 13 through her family’s encouragement. “My whole family has been very supportive and (have been) pushing me to do what I want to do,” she said.
Moving in and out of Nashville, Madysyn has been on the run chasing her dream of becoming a professional musician for years. “I moved to Nashville in February (of) this year but I ended up moving back to LA and now I am back in Nashville. I have been back and forth a lot,” she laughed.
Upon asking about her development of genres, Madysyn admitted that she started out on pop but claimed she has listened to country the most. Upon further inquiry, Madysyn explained, “I started doing pop and I was on “The Pop Game” TV show for singers and the older I got the more I started branching out and finding my way back to country music. I was raised on it so it is what I am most comfortable in and what I love to do.” Her pop background is what developed her adoration of her main influencers, John Mayer and Tori Kelly.
Her love for country music was clear through her expressed appreciation for the genuineness shown in the genre, both instrumentally and compositionally. “It has always been special to me because it’s what I’ve listened to ever since I was younger,” she said.
Because she has been interested in becoming an artist at such a young age, Madysyn has had years of experience evolving into the rising performer she is today. “Sometimes It’s easy to get discouraged when you are trying for a career like a musician but I have always been sure of myself, like this is what I am meant to do,” she described.
Her latest single, “Girlfriend” captivates the essence of a youthful love that’s filled with confusion, challenge, and strength. Within the song, Madysyn sings about a girl desiring for a mature relationship, one that isn’t like the common stay-then-space scenario. The upbeat tune questions this modern love story and exemplifies standards that this modern love story should assert. For these reasons, I find the song to be one that if listened to, would solve abundant confusion and issues that arise in youthful love today.
As for the future, Madysyn will release an EP filled with heartfelt tracks like “Girlfriend” in 2021. Keep an eye on this one. Her persona reminds me of Gabby Barrett and as we know, Barrett is an image of passion and success in the country music world today.
