Miranda Lambert Driving Back There in My Mind

Apple Music has just revealed the second release of its Lost & Found program, featuring the enchanting three-time GRAMMY winner Miranda Lambert in “Driving Back There In My Mind.” This extraordinary initiative spotlights unreleased tracks written by Nashville’s finest songwriters, re-recorded by today’s biggest artists, all in mesmerizing Spatial Audio.

“Driving Back There In My Mind” is a creation by The Love Junkies, a talented trio consisting of GRAMMY Award-Winning songwriters Lori McKenna, Hillary Lindsey, and Liz Rose. Miranda Lambert’s collaboration with The Love Junkies was a natural fit, given her longstanding history with the trio. Miranda shared her thoughts, saying, “The Love Junkies, number one, because individually, Liz [Rose], Lori [McKenna], and Hillary [Lindsey] are some of my favorite writers. And then together, it’s just like magic and gold.”

Selecting the perfect Love Junkies’ demo wasn’t an easy task, as Miranda explains, “The process of picking one was a lot harder because it’s [The Love Junkies], and there’s so many gems.” However, the moment she heard “Driving Back There In My Mind,” it felt like the perfect match for her. She describes it as “old-school country” and unmistakably her own.

The “Lost” demo, available exclusively on Apple Music, preserves the raw authenticity of the original recording, captured on an iPhone by The Love Junkies. This candid glimpse into their creative process is known as a “work tape,” and it’s exactly how they bring their songs to life. Lori McKenna shares her memory of that moment, saying, “That was probably my iPhone on a coffee table. Hillary Lindsay is playing guitar and singing.”

Liz Rose adds, “I was just in awe of how [Miranda] made it her own. I loved the song and I loved the work tape.” Miranda Lambert’s rendition took the song to new heights, evoking vivid imagery and emotions. Liz Rose could see the entire story unfold in Miranda’s performance.

Miranda Lambert emphasizes the importance of the Lost & Found program, highlighting that many hidden gems lie undiscovered in Nashville. She encourages artists who are also songwriters to explore the wealth of incredible songs written by their friends and fellow songwriters. She reflects on her own experience, mentioning how “House That Built Me” became one of her biggest hits because she reached out and found it.
