When you’ve become an accomplished musician, you begin to identify opportunities in the industry and create sounds that people haven’t heard before. That’s exactly what Brett Boyett, Troy Johnson, and Scott Lindsey did when they formed Nashvillains.
Each member has achieved success over the years writing for movies, TV, and well-known artists such as The Chicks, Keith Urban, Cassadee Pope, James Taylor, Lauren Alaina, Drake Bell, Kevin Costner, and more. They formed after coming together with a shared vision of a new sound.
Boyett had the idea for a while and eventually brought Johnson and Lindsey together for a writing session. The new music sounded good, unique, and authentic. The trio was pleased at the result and everything started to take shape, with this project allowing them to ensure the songs they wrote were heard.
Unlike other cowrites, coming together as a group enabled its members to take ownership of the entire song. In other sessions, a solo singer might want to determine the direction of the song. As three equal members of the band, they get to create and finalize the entire package.
Sharing a glimpse into their songwriting process, Lindsey said, “When you know the song is right, and it’s done, everyone in the room knows it’s done.”
“Tumbling Down”
“Tumbling Down” is the second song the trio wrote as a group and will appear on their album releasing this year. They wrote it based on what you might see in a movie–desolate and depressing. Thematically, it’s based around all the craziness in the world today, with a dark cloud hovering over everything, mixed in with everyone’s personal struggles.

Next Single: “Who Don’t”
The Nashvillains’ next single “Who Don’t” will also appear on the upcoming album. Andrew Dorff wrote the song and his father Steve had been holding onto it since his son passed away. After waiting for the right band or artist to take it, Dorff offered it to the Nashvillains. “That was quite the honor to say we’re the right band and allowing us to do it,” they shared.
Upcoming Album
In addition to the first two singles, we’ll be able to expect a variety of sounds and a blending of genres on the album. They’ve always gravitated towards a darker/outlaw country sound and this album reflects a more modern version of that. The album will feature a variety of instruments, like the cello, strings, and trumpets.
What’s Next for the Nashvillains
While they haven’t been back to playing in-person shows yet, the Nashvillains are extremely active online, hosting a couple live streams each week. One is a happy hour and the other is titled “Broke Down Sessions.” Both feature talented guests that you’re sure to enjoy.
