Nathan Merovich recently released his song “More Like Midnight” and not only did he answer some questions for us, but we have an exclusive video to share with you as well!
“Derek Reitz, Tia Welsh and I wrote this song about being young and telling your girl’s father that you’ll have her home by nine, but it turns into midnight because you were having so much fun you lost track of time,” Merovich says of his latest release.
Q&A with Nathan Merovich
How did you get started in country music?
I grew up listening to old country, anything from Johnny Cash, George Strait, Waylon Jennings… I just loved how country music tells a story and I wanted to be able to share my own stories.
What can you tell us about the other songs on your upcoming album?
The songs on my upcoming album are a mixture of songs from hunting, being a dreamer, and deep country boys’ songs. There’s a song for everyone on the album and I’m pretty proud of each one of them!
You took the leap to play music full time in 2019. How did you know that was the right time?
In 2019 I knew I wanted to take the leap because I was starting to build pretty big fan base, getting lots of requests to play places and do private parties. People seemed to love what I was bringing to the table so I really felt making my dream a reality was finally possible.
What’s your songwriting process like?
My songwriting process is just going for walks, going somewhere that’s quiet, and just letting ideas flow a lot of my songs are my life and what I love to do. I write a lot with one of my buddies, when we get together I play all sorts of riffs and melodies and the lyrics go back and forth till something lines up and sounds good. Tia and Derek always come up with great lyrics and some how I hear how they want them to sound. It’s a pretty neat process when we are working on something!
What other plans do you have for 2021 and beyond?
My 2021 plan consists of expanding my demographic to areas outside of PA and TN to really get my name out in different areas. I probably have enough songs for a whole next album but we are going to keep writing and really hone in on what we want this next album to represent…especially considering my first album doesn’t release until the end of May. I want to really expose each of the songs on the album though 2021 and do some secret recording for what’s to come next!
Is there anything else you would like people to know about you?
I love to hunt, fish, anything outdoors and I love to hang with my family and closest friends! I’m usually up for anything!
