6 Questions with Priscilla Block

TikTok star Priscilla Block has garnered over 400,000 fans on the platform and counting, with a whopping 3 million views on her videos. The momentum of this surge in fans translated into Block’s latest single “Just About Over You” reaching the number one spot on both iTunes Country Charts and the iTunes All Genre Chart, too.

We asked Block six quick questions about her journey and musical influences.

1. When did you decide you wanted to be a country singer/songwriter?

When I was 15, learning to play Taylor Swift songs on the guitar. Cue “fifteen,” by T swift. I started writing songs shortly after and I couldn’t stop.

2. You have over 400k followers on TikTok. What was your approach to the platform when you first started and did you anticipate having such a large following?

To be honest, I thought it was a dancing app when I first heard of it. Then I started seeing people let loose and really embrace imperfections. I mean, Charlie Damelio barely ever wears makeup and she is one of the biggest tik tokers. I knew I could embrace myself and my music would probably resonate with people and it did. AND LORD BLESS TIKTOK. I had no clue it was going to blow up the way it has.

3. Some of your followers compare your sound to Miranda Lambert. Do you agree with this? Who’s your biggest musical inspiration?

I definitely take this as a compliment. I LOVE her. She is a huge inspiration and I’ve always looked up to the way she’s unapologetically herself. I have sooo many musical inspirations. Definitely Miranda, Pistol Annies, Kacey Musgraves, the list goes on.

4. On the Bobby Bones show, you said that you wanted to write a more fun and upbeat song because you were sick of writing heartbreak songs. Can you talk about your approach to songwriting for both fun/happy and sad songs?

I just try to keep it real across the board. I mean Thick Thighs are REAL and so is heartbreak.

5. Along those same lines, since “Thick Thighs” is about being confident in the skin you’re in, what would be your advice to young girls who continually look at unrealistic beauty standards on social media and believe that’s what they need to live up to?

BE YOUR FREAKIN SELF. As cliche as that sounds, it’s true. I’ve spent so many years trying to be “skinny” or perfect. No one is perfect and at the end of the day… even supermodels struggle with self worth and confidence. Embrace your insecurities and maybe you can help someone else embrace theirs.

6. What’s next for you in 2020? Are you releasing more music?

YESSSS. I have been writing for the past 5 years… I have so many songs that I want to release for the world to hear. <3
