You probably know Rachel Reinert as a former member of the band Gloriana. While they had a lot of success as a group, Reinert has emerged as a solo artist seeking her time to shine. She has a lot to say and has packaged it up into new music.
Rachel Reinert’s New Album: Into the Blue
Reinert plans to release her full-length solo album on March 13, which she worked on for four years after leaving the band. “I pretty much started over after I left,” she explained. “I’m really excited because all the songs are super reflective of my life and my experiences and talk a lot about and what’s been going on with me over the last few years.”
Into the Blue shows who she is as a person and an artist. She cowrote every song on the album and describes it as a mix of old and new with some southern California influences. Now that she’s a solo artist, she has the opportunity to tell her own story.
She shared that in the past, not many of her songs were cut. “[It] was kind of devastating and sometimes it can be hard standing up on stage, singing someone else ‘s songs, telling someone else’s story.” Reinert explained that while she has a lot of respect for the songwriting community, she needed this album to come from within.
All We Have
One of Reinert’s singles from her upcoming album,“All We Have,” was inspired by her husband and Reinert discussed how that song came to be.
The song has a powerful message– that life is not about the things you have, whether they are material or symbolic (e.g. a status), but about who you are as a person.
While she was a member of Gloriana, Reinert enjoyed the luxury of having comfortable income, owning a home at 24 years old, and the ability to purchase a new car. When she left the band, she also left behind the stability and comfort of a steady paycheck and locked-in opportunities.
She soon found that she couldn’t sustain her previous lifestyle and began to downsize. Her husband and she had been dating about a year at the time and he only knew her in the lifestyle she had while in the band. Reinert soon learned that he was someone worth keeping in her life, as he stayed with her through the ups and the downs. “He stood by my side through thick and thin, all the highs and the lows. All of the breakdowns that I kind of had to go through in this process,” she said.
Along this journey, she found out who a lot of her true friends were as well–the ones who wanted to be in her life for who she was and not what she had. Inspired to write, she penned “All We Have” with Davis Naish and Melissa Fuller.
Making the Video
A video followed the song and she made the decision to include her husband in it. “I’ll make my one time appearance,” he said, jokingly.
“I like to bring him along to a lot of things because he’s just like this source of comfort for me,” she said. “He plays a big role in my life and my career.”
She alluded to the fact that it was pleasant having him in the video because he’s so easy-going. At the same time, the first part of the video was challenging to make because the beginning was done in one take and had to be shot multiple times before they could move on to the scene with her husband.
The Early Years
At Country Evolution, we always like to find out about artists’ beginnings because each person has a unique story to tell. In Reinert’s childhood, her parents knew early on that she had a knack for performing when she wore out her cassette tape of Sheryl Crow’s “All I Want to Do.”
A talent agent approached her in a grocery store and asked her to audition. After signing with the agency, Reinert began to audition for commercials, which turned out to be a lot different than what they expected. She was cast in a commercial for a department store and when they arrived at the shoot, her mom was shocked at what a different world child actors experienced.
Reinert and her mom decided it would be better to pursue musical theater, rather than commercials, which led her to the path she’s on today. As a teen, she started writing poetry and then learned to play guitar. After going to concerts, she thought, “That’s what I want to do.”
One of her teachers took notice of her singing and writing and helped her make demos out of a garage during the summertime. That led to her first trip to Nashville. She fell in love with the city and moved there with her mom when she was just sixteen. Soon after, she had a deal with an independent publisher. Two years later, she joined Gloriana, which catapulted her career.
