“Bluegrass Queen” Rhonda Vincent just released her latest single “Like I Could,” which was written by Grand Ole Opry country music star Jeannie Seely, along with Erin Enderlin and Bobby Tomberlin. They created the song when Seely agreed to schedule a writing session. Vincent explained, “It was pretty special because Jeannie Seely wrote the song. It was the first time she set up an appointment. She was terrified of getting a block and couldn’t really think of anything.”
Vincent said in a press release, “As soon as Jeannie Seely started singing ‘Like I Could’ to me, I instantly loved it. It felt like it was written just for me and my vocal style. As we were recording the tracks, it just felt right. You know when you can feel that something is just right for you; like trying on that perfect dress, or pair of shoes. This song was just the right fit.”
“I love the song and it was so neat to get to sing it on the Opry,” she began, “which was a little terrifying for me when I had two of the writers standing there.”
In addition to the current single, Vincent will be releasing three more singles and eventually an album. She just shot the video for “Like I Could” and plans to release videos to accompany the other songs as well.
Mike Dekle wrote the second single. “He’s one of my favorite writers,” she said. Vincent ran into him when she was at a songwriters’ banquet. She hadn’t seen him in years and he ended up texting her later, asking whether she was looking for songs.
Additionally, the video for her next song will continue the story of where the first one ends. When asked whether she planned for the songs to fit together so well, she responded, “It just happened that way.”
Vincent’s recent singles are not the only things that have fallen into place so perfectly. Her career started at age five and she was raised in a very musical family. They played together in a band and practiced daily. “It was more of a way of life than anything,” she explained, “I thought everyone was at their house doing the same thing.” She compared her situation to a family that farms to earn a living. Music was the Vincent family’s livelihood.
She plays a handful of instruments, noting that she’s most familiar with the mandolin and she finds the fiddle to be the most challenging.
Vincent didn’t wake up one day and decide to be a musician. It was in her blood. “It chose me,” she shared. “I’m so thankful, so blessed. And I thank God each day for the wonderful opportunity that we have.”
She’s worked with many incredible performers and had some fascinating experiences. “My favorite thing about the music business is the collaboration of different artists.” Vincent has worked with Dolly Parton, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, and Martina McBride, to name a few.
One of the highlights of her career (and in general) was meeting Elton John after she and Dolly Parton covered his song “Please,” which appeared on the Elton John/Bernie Taupin tribute CD, Restoration. He ran over, wrapped his arms around her and exclaimed, “I’ve never had a number one bluegrass song before!”
More amazing moments are undoubtedly on the horizon for Rhonda Vincent. She continues to tour and we look forward to her new music this year. For more information, visit http://www.rhondavincent.com/
