Johnny Dailey Speaks on Nashville and “Burns Like Whiskey”

In 2018, Johnny Dailey and his family all moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Of course, Nashville is not only a huge city, but the biggest country music scene in the world.

Dailey confesses that “It was hard moving away from Alabama because I had spent my whole life there. But my family has been really supportive the whole time, and that has helped me so much. And I believe that wherever my family is, any place can be considered ‘home’ to me.”

Johnny also said that meeting other songwriters and artists in Nashville helped create a sense of belonging in the city. Further, he states that having a sense of community anywhere you go will make anyone feel as if they were at home.

Johnny Dailey Growing Up With Country Music

“I grew up in Alabama and I was surrounded by country music, so I believe that I have been involved in country music for as long as I can remember. But, I didn’t start playing guitar until middle school. I also didn’t think that I could make country music a career until my junior or senior year of high school.”

Some of the artists Dailey listened to growing up include: Kenny Chesney, George Strait, and Dierks Bentley. In addition, Dailey states that he loves Dierks Bentley’s older records because of his songwriting and lyrics on each track. In terms of musical style, Johnny Dailey explains that his style is made up of bits and pieces from the sounds of his musical influences. Further, the Alabama-native states that the biggest part of their music that he draws from is the songwriting aspect.

He says this is true because, “I have to believe in a song or its lyrics in order to sing it.”

Similarly, in terms of the artist’s sound, Dailey explains that he is trying to still find his identity and ‘carve out his sound’. But he admits that his sound is very similar to a lot of Dierks’ older records mashed together with Bob Seager’s sound.

“Over the past year, my crew and I have worked on finding the right sound for me. And we have realized that is seems to be 90’s country with a little bit of heartland rock mixed in,” Dailey shares.

Dailey’s Latest Single “Burns Like Whiskey”

Dailey released his latest single “Burns Like Whiskey” in the last year.

The artist explains that “…some colleagues and I sat down before the pandemic hit and got to work. One of the guys brought in a guitar lick and right after that, the song started coming together. And I believe that this song is special to me, because it’s the moment I found my sound. The song itself is a nostalgic love song, looking back on that ‘love feeling’ we’ve had with somebody. I think that almost every one of us can relate to that on some level. Whether that person is still here or they have passed on, it is something we can all relate to. Lastly, “Burns Like Whiskey” is a great summer love song for everyone.”

Upcoming Music in 2021

Dailey explains that “We have been working hard on some new music for everyone. We plan to release two more songs this year. One is coming up here soon, and the other will be released closer to the holiday season.”
