Michael McCall Explains How it Feels to Be “Farther From Home”

Michael McCall: Country Music in Washington State

Hailing from Washington State, Michael McCall has been acclimated to the country music scene for years now. However, the recording artist hasn’t always listened to the same music as his peers.

“Growing up, I didn’t listen to the same artists that other kids listened to. They turned on rock and roll, while I listened to George Strait, or Merle Haggard,” the artist explains. “Of course I do love a lot of the newer country as well. I love Cody Johnson’s new music, along with Morgan Wallen,” the Washington State-native adds.

Similarly, Michael McCall believes his music is very congruent in style to Johnsons’ newer records. In addition, McCall states that his musical style is traditional and meshes with some of the older artists he grew up listening to. The artist credits his family for raising him on music. McCalls’ father was also a songwriter and guitarist.

“All of my family played instruments while growing up. So as you would imagine, I was surrounded by country music all the time. But, I didn’t start taking country music seriously as a career until I was 24 or 25 years old. I started writing and realized that the lyrics I wrote couldn’t be ‘pop’ or ‘rock and roll’, rather, it was country music.”

McCall shares that not until more recently he classified himself as a songwriter.

But, “…nowadays other songwriters pitch their songs for me to sing. However, I didn’t start singing until a few years ago.”

Michael McCall: “Farther From Home”

Michael McCall’s new single “Farther From Home” will release on July 9, 2021. The song discusses what happens when someone realizes how much they truly miss the small town they grow up in after moving away.

He explains, “Everything I grew up with at the time, I took for granted. I had an amazing childhood. Growing up on an orchard, doing chores that my father gave me to do, I thought to myself, ‘Wow I am ready to get off of this orchard.’ But now, I would give up anything to go back and be there again.”

McCall believes that people can relate to “Farther From Home” on so many different levels.

For example, “In a small town, there are a lot of people that go to a city job with a lot of noise. And they probably think to themselves, ‘Man, if I could go back to quiet life on the farm, that would be great.’ And I feel like there are a lot of people that feel this way,” McCall explains.

Looking Ahead at 2021
